Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tulsa, Oklahoma, commonly known as the “Oil Capital of the World”, has a rich history deeply rooted in the oil boom of the early 20th century. The city was originally settled by the Creek Native American tribe in the 1830s, and later became a popular trading post along the Arkansas River. In 1901, oil was discovered nearby, leading to a sudden economic boom that transformed Tulsa into a bustling hub for the oil industry. The population soared as people from all over the country flocked to the city in search of wealth and opportunity. Tulsa’s economy thrived throughout the early to mid-1900s, with the construction of many grand Art Deco buildings that still stand today. However, the city also faced challenges, such as racial tensions culminating in the devastating Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. In recent years, Tulsa has undergone revitalization efforts to preserve its historic architecture and cultural heritage, while also diversifying its economy beyond oil. Today, the city is known for its thriving arts scene, vibrant music culture, and strong sense of community.
