Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tucson, Arizona, was founded in 1775 by Spanish settlers and was originally a small adobe village called Presidio San Agustin del Tucson. The town grew as a trading post along the Santa Cruz River and became an important hub for the Spanish conquistadors exploring the Southwest region. In the mid-1800s, Tucson became part of the United States after the Gadsden Purchase, and the city experienced a population boom during the California Gold Rush as prospectors passed through on their way to the western gold fields. Tucson’s economy flourished with the development of mining, agriculture, and the railroad industry. Throughout the 20th century, Tucson evolved into a thriving metropolis known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant arts scene, and world-renowned universities. Today, Tucson is a diverse and dynamic city that blends historic adobe architecture with modern amenities, making it a popular destination for tourists and new residents alike.
