Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tucson, Arizona, known as the “Old Pueblo,” has a rich history that dates back over 4,000 years. The area was originally inhabited by the Hohokam people, who established a thriving farming community along the banks of the Santa Cruz River. In the late 17th century, Spanish missionaries arrived in the area and established the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson, which served as a military outpost and center of Spanish colonial governance. Over the following centuries, Tucson grew into a bustling trading post and agricultural center. In the mid-19th century, Tucson became a vital transportation hub with the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The city boomed during the silver mining rush of the late 1800s and quickly became one of the largest cities in the Arizona Territory. Today, Tucson is a vibrant metropolis known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning desert landscapes, and world-class resorts. The city continues to thrive as a modern hub of innovation, education, and arts.
