Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tucson, Arizona, also known as “The Old Pueblo,” has a rich history dating back over 4,000 years. The region was home to the Hohokam people who built complex irrigation systems to sustain their agricultural practices. In the 16th century, Spanish explorers arrived in the area and established missions to convert the indigenous population to Christianity. Tucson became part of Mexico in 1821 after gaining independence from Spain. However, in 1854, as a result of the Gadsden Purchase, the city became part of the United States. Tucson experienced rapid growth in the late 19th century due to the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad and the establishment of military bases. Today, Tucson is a vibrant city known for its diverse cultural heritage, thriving arts scene, and stunning natural beauty. It is home to the University of Arizona, numerous museums, and a thriving culinary scene. Tucson continues to grow and evolve while honoring its storied past.
