Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tallahassee, Florida, located in the panhandle of the state, has a rich history dating back thousands of years. The area was first inhabited by the Apalachee and Timucua tribes before European settlers arrived in the 16th century. The Spanish established missions in the region in the 17th century, and the area became a hub for trade and agriculture. In 1824, Tallahassee was chosen as the capital of Florida, which helped to spur growth and development in the area. The city played a key role in the Civil War, serving as an important Confederate stronghold. Over the years, Tallahassee has continued to evolve, becoming a center for education, government, and culture. Today, the city is home to Florida State University and Florida A&M University, as well as historic landmarks such as the Old Capitol Building and Maclay Gardens State Park. Tallahassee’s diverse history and vibrant community make it a unique and thriving city in the Sunshine State.
