Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tallahassee, Florida, has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Originally home to the Apalachee people, the area was first settled by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1824, Tallahassee was established as the capital of Florida, becoming one of the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlements in the United States. Throughout the years, Tallahassee has played a significant role in Florida’s history. During the Civil War, the city was the only Confederate capital east of the Mississippi River not captured by Union forces. In the 20th century, Tallahassee became a hub for education and government, with Florida State University and Florida A&M University both located within the city limits. Today, Tallahassee is a vibrant and diverse city known for its historic architecture, bustling arts scene, and beautiful natural surroundings. Its rich history and cultural heritage continue to attract visitors and residents alike.
