Welcome to the Newto News for June of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Stockton, California was founded in 1849 by Captain Charles Maria Weber, a German immigrant who came to California during the Gold Rush. Originally named “Weber’s Crossing,” the city quickly grew as a bustling transportation hub along the San Joaquin River. In the late 19th century, Stockton became known for its agricultural industry, with numerous farms and vineyards producing fruits, vegetables, and wine. The city also had a prominent role in the shipping and transportation industry, with steamboats and railroads connecting Stockton to other major cities in California. Throughout the 20th century, Stockton continued to grow and develop, becoming a diverse and vibrant community. However, the city also faced challenges such as economic downturns and crime rates. Today, Stockton is known for its cultural landmarks, including the Haggin Museum and Stockton Arena. The city continues to thrive as a center for agriculture, education, and commerce in the Northern California region.
