Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Stockton, California was founded in 1849 by Captain Charles Maria Weber, a German immigrant who arrived during the California Gold Rush. Originally named Tuleburg, the city quickly grew into a bustling port town along the San Joaquin River, becoming a hub of commerce and transportation for the Central Valley. In the late 19th century, Stockton became a major center for agriculture, with orchards and vineyards surrounding the city producing a variety of crops. The city also became known for its diverse population, with immigrants from around the world coming to work in the fields and factories. Stockton faced challenges in the 20th century, including economic downturns and social unrest. However, the city persevered, and in recent years has seen a revitalization of its downtown area and a renewed focus on community development. Today, Stockton is a vibrant and diverse city, known for its cultural events, thriving arts scene, and beautiful waterfront. It continues to be an important hub for agriculture, transportation, and commerce in the Central Valley.
