Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Stillwater, Oklahoma was founded in 1884 by settlers who came to the area following the Land Run of 1889. Named for the nearby Stillwater Creek, the city quickly became a hub of agricultural activity due to its fertile soil and access to transportation routes. The arrival of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad in 1889 further fueled the city’s growth, leading to the establishment of businesses, schools, and churches. In the early 20th century, Stillwater flourished as a center for education with the founding of Oklahoma A&M College, now known as Oklahoma State University. The university remains a key player in the city’s economy and culture to this day. Throughout its history, Stillwater has experienced periods of prosperity and challenges, including the Great Depression and the impact of various wars. However, the city has consistently demonstrated resilience and growth, maintaining its reputation as a vibrant community with a strong sense of pride and identity.
