Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Starkville, Mississippi was founded in 1834 by a group of settlers led by Oktibbeha County Commissioner John Moseley. The city was named in honor of Revolutionary War hero General John Stark. Initially a small farming community, Starkville grew rapidly with the establishment of Mississippi State University in 1878, which brought a surge of students and faculty to the area. Throughout its history, Starkville has been a center of education and innovation. The city played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, with local activists organizing protests and sit-ins to fight for racial equality. Today, Starkville is a vibrant community known for its strong sense of community, diverse culture, and thriving economy. From its humble beginnings as a frontier settlement to its current status as a bustling city, Starkville has always been a place where progress and tradition intersect to create a unique and dynamic way of life.
