Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

St. Augustine, Florida, holds the title of being the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the United States. Founded in 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, St. Augustine quickly became an important port city for Spanish ships traveling back and forth to the New World. The city served as the capital of Spanish Florida for over 200 years, and its historic district still boasts many well-preserved Spanish colonial buildings. Throughout its history, St. Augustine has faced numerous challenges, including attacks by pirates, conflicts with Native American tribes, and battles during the American Revolution and the Civil War. Despite these challenges, the city has continued to thrive and is now a popular tourist destination known for its charming historic district, beautiful beaches, and rich cultural heritage. Today, St. Augustine remains a vibrant and diverse city, attracting visitors from around the world to experience its unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.
