Springfield, Missouri was founded in 1838, named after a natural spring in the area. The city quickly grew thanks to its location on the old Cherokee Trail, becoming a key trading post for travelers and settlers moving westward. During the Civil War, Springfield played a strategic role as a supply center for the Union Army. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Springfield became known for its thriving agricultural industry and was dubbed the “Queen City of the Ozarks.” The city continued to expand with the arrival of the railroad and the establishment of several colleges and universities. In the 21st century, Springfield has evolved into a bustling metropolitan area with a diverse economy including healthcare, education, manufacturing, and retail. The city is known for its vibrant arts scene, lively music scene, and historic architecture.
