Welcome to the Newto News for June of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Santa Rosa, California, was founded in 1833 by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, a prominent figure in California history. Originally named after Saint Rose of Lima, the city was established as part of the Mexican land grant Rancho Cabeza de Santa Rosa. In the late 19th century, Santa Rosa became a major hub for agriculture, particularly in the production of grapes and wine. The city experienced rapid growth in the early 20th century, attracting residents and businesses due to its picturesque landscapes and favorable climate. However, this growth was interrupted by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, which caused significant damage to the city. In the following decades, Santa Rosa recovered and continued to grow, becoming a thriving community known for its vibrant arts scene, wineries, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Today, Santa Rosa is a diverse and culturally rich city, with a strong economy and a commitment to preserving its natural beauty and historic heritage.
