Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Santa Rosa, California was founded in 1833 by Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, a prominent Mexican military officer and landowner. The city was originally a farming community known for its fertile land and mild climate, which made it ideal for growing grapes, olives, and other crops. In 1846, during the Mexican-American War, the city was taken over by American forces and became part of the United States. In the late 19th century, Santa Rosa experienced a period of rapid growth and development, with the construction of a railroad line connecting the city to San Francisco. The city became known for its thriving agricultural industry and became a hub for commerce and trade in the region. In the early 20th century, Santa Rosa underwent further expansion with the development of its downtown area and the establishment of new industries, including the wine and healthcare sectors. Today, Santa Rosa is a vibrant and diverse city known for its rich history, cultural attractions, and scenic beauty.
