Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Santa Barbara, California has a rich history dating back to the early 16th century when Spanish explorers first discovered the region. The area was home to the indigenous Chumash people who had inhabited the coastal lands for thousands of years. In 1782, the Spanish founded the Presidio of Santa Barbara, establishing a military outpost to protect the growing settlement. The city grew slowly over the years, with the construction of missions and ranches attracting Spanish settlers and missionaries. In the mid-19th century, Santa Barbara became a popular destination for wealthy Americans seeking a mild climate and beautiful scenery. The city experienced a surge in growth with the arrival of the railroad in 1877, connecting it to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Today, Santa Barbara is known for its stunning Spanish colonial architecture, picturesque beaches, and vibrant arts scene. It remains a popular tourist destination and a hub for viticulture, with numerous wineries dotting the surrounding hillsides.
