Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

San Jose, California began as a small farming community in the late 18th century, established by Spanish settlers. As the population grew, the city became known as the “Valley of Heart’s Delight” due to its lush fruit orchards and vibrant agricultural industry. In the late 19th century, the city experienced rapid growth with the arrival of the railroad and the establishment of several industries, including canneries and technology companies. During World War II, San Jose’s economy boomed as the city became a hub for military production. In the post-war era, San Jose emerged as a center for innovation and technology, earning the nickname “Silicon Valley.” The city’s population continued to grow throughout the 20th century, as tech companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook set up headquarters in the area. Today, San Jose is a diverse and thriving metropolis known for its tech industry, cultural institutions, and vibrant arts scene.
