Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

San Diego, California has a rich history dating back over 10,000 years when the area was first inhabited by the Kumeyaay people. Spanish explorers arrived in the late 16th century, led by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who claimed the land for Spain. The area was later settled by the Spanish in the 18th century and became part of Mexico after gaining independence from Spain in 1821. In 1848, following the Mexican-American War, San Diego became part of the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The city experienced a population boom during the California Gold Rush of the 1850s, which led to the development of the area as a major port city. Throughout the 20th century, San Diego continued to grow and evolve as a hub for military, tourism, and technology industries. Today, it is known for its beautiful beaches, diverse cultural attractions, and vibrant economy.
