Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

San Diego, California is a city rich in history and culture, dating back thousands of years. The area was originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, who thrived off the land and sea, trading with neighboring tribes. In 1542, Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo landed in San Diego Bay, marking the first European contact with the region. In 1769, Spanish missionaries established the first of 21 missions in California, Mission San Diego de Alcala, in what is now present-day San Diego. The city grew slowly over the next century, becoming an important trading post and military outpost. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, San Diego experienced rapid growth with the development of the aerospace and defense industries. The city played a key role in World War II as a major naval base and training center. Today, San Diego is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant cultural scene, and thriving economy, making it a popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
