Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Queens, located on Long Island in New York, has a rich and diverse history dating back to its establishment as a Dutch colony in the 17th century. Originally known as the town of Middelburgh, Queens was later renamed after Queen Catherine of Braganza, the wife of King Charles II of England. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Queens experienced rapid industrialization and urbanization, attracting waves of immigrants from countries such as Ireland, Germany, Italy, Greece, China, and Eastern Europe. These new residents contributed to the city’s cultural vibrancy and economic growth, with neighborhoods like Astoria, Flushing, and Long Island City becoming vibrant ethnic enclaves. Today, Queens is one of the most ethnically diverse urban areas in the United States, with a population that represents a wide range of cultures and traditions. The borough is home to a thriving arts and culinary scene, as well as iconic landmarks such as Citi Field, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, and the Unisphere.
