Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was founded in 1758 by General John Forbes, during the French and Indian War. The city was strategically located at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, making it a key transportation hub for fur traders and settlers moving westward. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Pittsburgh became known as the “Steel City” due to its booming steel industry. The city was home to many steel mills and factories, creating a robust economy and attracting immigrants from all over the world. However, by the mid-20th century, Pittsburgh’s steel industry began to decline, leading to economic hardship and population loss. The city underwent a revitalization in the 1980s, focusing on technology, healthcare, and education industries. Today, Pittsburgh is known for its diverse economy, vibrant cultural scene, and beautiful architecture. It is home to prestigious universities, museums, and sports teams, making it a dynamic and exciting city to live in.
