Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Phoenix, Arizona was founded in 1867 as an agricultural community near the Salt River. The city was named after the mythical bird that rises from its own ashes, symbolizing the city’s resilience and ability to thrive in the harsh desert climate. By the late 19th century, Phoenix had become a major center for agriculture, with cotton, citrus, and cattle ranching driving the economy. In the early 20th century, Phoenix experienced a population boom due to the construction of the Roosevelt Dam, which provided irrigation water for the surrounding farmlands. The city continued to grow rapidly, becoming the state capital of Arizona in 1912. Throughout the 20th century, Phoenix evolved into a modern city with a diverse economy driven by technology, aerospace, healthcare, and tourism. Today, Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the United States and a vibrant cultural hub in the southwest, known for its performing arts, culinary scene, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
