Welcome to the Newto News for June of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Phoenix, Arizona was established in 1867 as an agricultural community by Jack Swilling, a Confederate veteran of the Civil War. The town was named after the mythical bird that rose from its ashes, symbolizing the city’s resilience and ability to thrive in the harsh desert environment. With the arrival of the railroad in the late 1880s, Phoenix began to grow rapidly, becoming the capital of the Arizona Territory in 1889. The city experienced further economic growth with the completion of the Roosevelt Dam in 1911, providing a reliable water source for irrigation and enabling the expansion of the agricultural industry. During World War II, Phoenix became a major center for aircraft manufacturing and training, contributing to the city’s continued growth and development. In the second half of the 20th century, Phoenix emerged as a major regional hub for technology, finance, and healthcare, attracting a diverse population and solidifying its position as one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. Today, Phoenix is known for its vibrant culture, arts scene, and outdoor recreation opportunities, making it a popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
