Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Pensacola, Florida has a rich history dating back over 450 years. The city was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Pensacola and Creek peoples. In 1559, the Spanish established a settlement in the area, making it the first European settlement in the United States. Pensacola was later captured by the French and then the British before being returned to Spanish control in 1781. During the 19th century, Pensacola became a major port city and a hub for the lumber industry. The city played a significant role in the Civil War, serving as a Confederate stronghold and ultimately falling to Union forces in 1862. In the 20th century, Pensacola experienced rapid growth and development, becoming a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches and rich cultural heritage. Today, Pensacola is a thriving city with a diverse population and a strong economy based on tourism, military presence, and manufacturing industries.
