Panama City, Florida was founded in 1909 by two businessmen, George Mortimer West and Albert Fuller. Originally named Harrison, the city was re-christened Panama City in honor of the Panama Canal, which was nearing completion at the time. Located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, Panama City quickly became a thriving port city, attracting both commercial and residential development. During World War II, the city played a crucial role in the war effort as a training ground for military personnel and a hub for shipping supplies to Europe. After the war, Panama City experienced a population boom and rapid industrial growth, leading to the establishment of several key industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, and tourism. Today, Panama City is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant arts and culture scene, and strong economy. The city continues to grow and prosper, attracting visitors and new residents alike with its unique blend of history, natural beauty, and modern amenities.
