Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Orlando, Florida has a rich and vibrant history that dates back to the 16th century when Spanish explorers first set foot in the area. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, the land was later settled by European colonizers who established citrus farms and cattle ranches. In the late 19th century, Orlando experienced a population boom with the arrival of the South Florida Railroad, which connected the city to the rest of the state. The construction of Lake Eola Park and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts brought further development and cultural enrichment to the city. Orlando truly flourished in the mid-20th century with the opening of Walt Disney World Resort in 1971, which transformed the city into a thriving tourist destination. Today, Orlando is known for its world-class attractions, diverse population, and vibrant arts scene, making it a hub for entertainment and innovation in the Sunshine State.
