Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Omaha, Nebraska was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Otoe, Missouri, Ponca, and Omaha tribes. The area was first explored by Europeans in the late 17th century, but it wasn’t until the early 19th century that permanent settlements began to form. In 1854, Omaha was officially founded and quickly became a bustling frontier town due to its strategic location along the Missouri River. The city thrived as a transportation hub, with the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad in the late 1860s further boosting its growth. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Omaha continued to prosper as a center for agriculture, meatpacking, and manufacturing industries. The city also became known for its vibrant cultural scene, with the development of theaters, opera houses, and museums. Today, Omaha is a thriving metropolis with a diverse population and a strong economy. The city is home to several Fortune 500 companies, as well as renowned institutions such as the University of Nebraska Omaha. Omaha continues to grow and evolve, while still maintaining its rich history and unique character.
