Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Oklahoma City, located in the heart of the Great Plains, has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when it was established as a trading post for Native American tribes. The city quickly grew in size and importance with the arrival of the Land Run of 1889, which saw thousands of settlers claim land in the area. By the early 20th century, Oklahoma City had become a major hub for agriculture, oil, and transportation, making it a key city in the region. The city experienced rapid growth and prosperity during this time, with the construction of iconic landmarks such as the Oklahoma State Capitol building and Devon Tower. In the late 20th century, Oklahoma City was rocked by tragedy when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed in 1995, killing 168 people. However, the city rallied together in the aftermath and underwent a period of revitalization and growth, becoming a thriving metropolis known for its vibrant culture, strong economy, and friendly residents. Today, Oklahoma City stands as a testament to resilience and progress, blending its rich history with a promising future.
