Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally inhabited by the Shoshone tribe, Ogden, Utah was settled by European American trappers in the early 1800s. The city was named after Peter Skene Ogden, a fur trapper for the Hudson’s Bay Company who explored the area in the 1820s. Ogden quickly grew into a bustling trading post and a vital stop on the transcontinental railroad, which helped to establish the city as a major transportation hub in the late 19th century. During the Prohibition era, Ogden became known for its speakeasies and bootlegging activities, leading to a reputation as a rowdy and lawless town. However, in the mid-20th century, Ogden underwent a revitalization effort, transforming it into a thriving city with a diverse economy based on manufacturing, transportation, and outdoor recreation. Today, Ogden is a vibrant community with a rich cultural heritage, attracting visitors with its stunning natural beauty and a variety of outdoor recreational activities.
