Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1848 by Mormon settlers, Ogden, Utah has a rich history rooted in the development of the American West. Named after Peter Skene Ogden, a fur trapper, the city quickly grew in prominence as a trading post along the transcontinental railroad. The completion of the Golden Spike in nearby Promontory Summit in 1869 solidified Ogden’s importance as a hub for transportation and commerce. Over the years, Ogden became known for its vibrant community and thriving economy, attracting settlers from all over the country. During the early 20th century, Ogden experienced a boom in industry and agriculture, further solidifying its status as a key player in the region. However, the Great Depression of the 1930s brought economic hardship to the city, leading to a period of decline. In recent years, Ogden has undergone a revitalization, with a renewed focus on tourism, outdoor recreation, and cultural amenities, making it a desirable destination for visitors and residents alike.
