Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

New Haven, Connecticut was founded in 1638 by English Puritans led by John Davenport and Theophilus Eaton. Originally known as the Quinnipiac settlement, the colonists quickly established a thriving community on the shores of Long Island Sound. In 1640, the town was officially renamed New Haven. Throughout the 17th century, New Haven became a center for trade and commerce, with a bustling port that connected the town to other major cities along the East Coast. The town also became known for its strong religious and educational institutions, including Yale University, which was founded in 1701. During the American Revolution, New Haven played a key role in the fight for independence, serving as a major supply depot for the Continental Army. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city continued to grow and prosper, becoming a hub for manufacturing and innovation. Today, New Haven is a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage and a diverse population. It remains an important center for education, healthcare, and the arts, attracting visitors and residents alike with its historic charm and modern amenities.
