Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Nashville, Tennessee was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Cherokee and Chickasaw. The city was founded in 1779 by James Robertson and John Donelson, who established Fort Nashborough on the Cumberland River. It was named in honor of American Revolutionary War hero, Francis Nash. Nashville quickly grew in importance as a center for trade and transportation, due to its strategic location along major waterways and trade routes. It became the capital of Tennessee in 1843 and played a key role in the Civil War, serving as a major Confederate stronghold. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Nashville developed into a major hub for the country music industry, earning it the nickname “Music City.” The city is home to iconic landmarks such as the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Today, Nashville is a thriving metropolis known for its vibrant music scene, historic sites, and southern hospitality.
