Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has a rich history dating back to its founding in the early 18th century. Originally inhabited by the Waccamaw and Winyah Native American tribes, the area was later settled by European colonists in the late 1700s. The town was named after the abundant myrtle trees that grew along the coast. In the late 19th century, Myrtle Beach began to attract tourists with the construction of the Myrtle Beach Pavilion and the establishment of the Ocean Forest Hotel. The area quickly became a popular vacation destination, known for its beautiful beaches and warm climate. During World War II, Myrtle Beach served as a training ground for soldiers before they were deployed overseas. After the war, the city experienced rapid growth with the development of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Today, Myrtle Beach is a bustling city with a thriving tourism industry, attracting millions of visitors each year.
