Located along the banks of the Monongahela River, Morgantown, West Virginia has a rich history dating back to the late 1700s. Originally settled by European immigrants in the late 1700s, the area was named after Zackquill Morgan, a pioneering settler and local landowner. Throughout the 19th century, Morgantown grew rapidly as a hub of transportation and industry, with the construction of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and a thriving coal mining industry driving economic growth.
