Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Montgomery, Alabama, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1819. Originally named for General Richard Montgomery, a Revolutionary War hero, the city quickly became a hub of commerce and transportation in the South. During the Civil War, Montgomery served as the first capital of the Confederate States of America in 1861. In the mid-20th century, Montgomery played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement. The city was the site of the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, sparked by Rosa Parks’s refusal to give up her seat on a bus, and was the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s leadership in the movement. Today, Montgomery is a vibrant city known for its historical significance, cultural attractions, and thriving economy. Visitors can explore landmarks such as the Civil Rights Memorial, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, and the Alabama State Capitol building, which showcase the city’s rich and complex heritage.
