Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Mobile, Alabama has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1702 by French colonists. Originally established as the capital of French Louisiana, Mobile played a vital role in the development of the region as a key trading post and hub for transportation along the Gulf Coast. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, Mobile experienced periods of both prosperity and turmoil, including Spanish and British occupation, as well as involvement in the Civil War. The city’s economy thrived due to its strategic location on the Mobile River, which facilitated the shipping of cotton and other goods throughout the South. In the 20th century, Mobile became a center for the shipbuilding industry, further boosting its economic growth. Today, Mobile is a diverse and vibrant city known for its historic architecture, vibrant arts scene, and unique cultural heritage. Its stunning waterfront and Mardi Gras celebrations continue to attract visitors from around the world.
