Welcome to the Newto News for April of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Missoula, Montana was originally inhabited by the Salish people, who called the area “nmesuletkw,” meaning “place of freezing waters.” The first European explorers arrived in the early 19th century, with fur trappers and traders setting up outposts in the region. In 1860, the town of Missoula was officially established as a trading post and later became a hub for the supply of gold miners traveling to the nearby mines. The arrival of the Northern Pacific Railway in 1883 brought increased growth and prosperity to Missoula, leading to the development of industries such as lumber and agriculture. The University of Montana was founded in 1893, further solidifying Missoula’s reputation as a center for education and culture in the region. Today, Missoula is known for its stunning natural beauty, outdoor recreational opportunities, and vibrant arts and music scene. It continues to attract residents and visitors alike with its unique blend of history, culture, and natural wonders.
