Welcome to the Newto News for April of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Named after the Greek word for “city of the lakes,” Minneapolis has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Originally inhabited by the Dakota Sioux, European settlers began to arrive in the area in the 1850s, attracted by the region’s natural resources and proximity to the Mississippi River. The city quickly grew into a major hub for lumber and flour milling, earning it the nickname “Mill City.” In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Minneapolis experienced a population boom due to its booming industries and opportunities for employment. The city became known for its vibrant arts scene, with theaters, music venues, and art galleries attracting artists and performers from around the country. Today, Minneapolis is a diverse and thriving city, known for its beautiful parks, cultural attractions, and thriving business community. It is also home to a number of Fortune 500 companies and has a reputation for being one of the most livable cities in the United States.
