Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1846 by Solomon Juneau, Byron Kilbourn, and George H. Walker, Milwaukee, Wisconsin quickly grew into a bustling industrial city due to its prime location on Lake Michigan. The city became known for its tanneries, breweries, and manufacturing industries, attracting a large influx of European immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Milwaukee became known as the “Beer Capital of the World” with famous breweries such as Pabst, Schlitz, and Miller calling the city home. In the early 20th century, Milwaukee experienced significant growth and prosperity, becoming one of the largest cities in the Midwest. However, the city faced challenges during the Great Depression and later, the decline of the manufacturing industry in the late 20th century. Despite these setbacks, Milwaukee has reinvented itself as a cultural hub with a vibrant arts scene, world-class museums, and a thriving food and craft beer culture. Today, Milwaukee is a diverse and dynamic city that celebrates its rich history while embracing modern innovation and growth.
