Welcome to the Newto News for September of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Miami, Florida was founded in 1896 by a woman named Julia Tuttle, who is often referred to as the “Mother of Miami.” She was able to convince Henry Flagler, a wealthy railroad tycoon, to extend his railway to the area, thus establishing Miami as a major transportation hub in South Florida. The city quickly began to grow, attracting settlers from all over the country due to its warm climate and opportunities for agriculture and tourism. By the 1920s, Miami had become a bustling metropolis, known for its Art Deco architecture and vibrant nightlife. However, the city faced challenges during the Great Depression and World War II, with many residents struggling financially. In the 1950s and 60s, Miami saw a surge in population as immigrants from Cuba and other Latin American countries sought refuge and opportunity in the city. Today, Miami is known for its diverse population, thriving arts and culture scene, and beautiful beaches. It continues to be a popular destination for tourists, retirees, and young professionals alike.
