Welcome to the Newto News for September of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Macon, Georgia, founded in 1823, is a city rich in history and culture. Named after Senator Nathaniel Macon, the city quickly grew into a center of trade and commerce in the early 19th century. With the construction of the railroad in the 1840s, Macon became an important transportation hub for the region, further fueling its economic growth. During the Civil War, Macon played a strategic role as a major Confederate supply center, attracting Union forces seeking to disrupt the Southern war effort. The city survived the war relatively unscathed and continued to prosper in the years following. Macon became known for its vibrant music scene in the late 20th century, producing notable artists such as Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers Band. Today, Macon is a thriving city with a diverse economy, historic architecture, and a thriving cultural scene, making it a popular destination for visitors and residents alike.
