Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Long Beach, California, originally inhabited by the indigenous Tongva tribe, was first visited by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. The area’s plentiful natural resources and ideal harbor location made it an attractive settlement for Spanish settlers in the 18th century. Throughout the following centuries, Long Beach continued to grow as a port city, with the discovery of oil in the early 20th century further fueling its expansion. During World War II, Long Beach became a major hub for shipbuilding and military operations, solidifying its reputation as an important maritime center. In the post-war era, the city diversified its economy, developing a strong presence in the aerospace and entertainment industries. Today, Long Beach is a vibrant and diverse city known for its beautiful beaches, thriving arts scene, and bustling port. Its rich history and unique cultural heritage continue to shape the city’s identity as a dynamic and welcoming community on the Southern California coast.
