Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Little Rock, Arkansas was founded in 1821 by French explorer and fur trader Jean-Baptiste Bénard de La Harpe. The city was named after a small rocky outcrop along the Arkansas River that served as a landmark for early travelers. Throughout the 19th century, Little Rock grew rapidly as a transportation hub, with steamboat traffic on the river and the arrival of the railroad in the 1870s. The city became the capital of Arkansas in 1836, solidifying its political importance. During the Civil War, Little Rock was occupied by Union forces, leading to widespread destruction and economic hardship. In the post-war years, the city began to rebuild and modernize, with the construction of new buildings and infrastructure. In the 20th century, Little Rock played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement, particularly with the integration of Central High School in 1957. The city continued to grow and diversify, becoming a cultural and economic center in the region. Today, Little Rock is known for its vibrant arts scene, historic landmarks, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
