Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Little Rock, Arkansas has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The city was founded in 1821 by French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe, who named it “La Petite Roche” after a small rock formation along the Arkansas River. In 1831, the city was officially incorporated and became the capital of the Arkansas Territory. During the Civil War, Little Rock played a significant role as both a Confederate stronghold and a strategic Union target. The Battle of Little Rock in 1863 resulted in the city’s occupation by Union forces and marked a turning point in the war. Throughout the 20th century, Little Rock continued to grow and develop, becoming a hub for business, education, and culture in the state. In 1957, the city gained national attention when nine African American students, known as the Little Rock Nine, integrated Central High School amid intense racial tensions. Today, Little Rock is a vibrant city known for its historic landmarks, cultural attractions, and Southern charm. Its diverse population and thriving economy make it a dynamic and welcoming place to call home.
