Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Little Rock, Arkansas was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Quapaw and Caddo peoples. In 1722, French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de La Harpe established a trading post in the area, which eventually grew into a small settlement known as “La Petite Roche” (The Little Rock) due to a small rock formation along the Arkansas River. In 1821, the United States took control of the territory and Little Rock became the capital of the newly established Arkansas Territory. The city rapidly grew as a center for trade, transportation, and government. It played a key role in the Civil War, with Union forces capturing the city in 1863. In the 20th century, Little Rock became known for its role in the Civil Rights Movement, particularly the desegregation of its public schools in 1957. Today, Little Rock is a vibrant city with a diverse economy, thriving arts and culture scene, and a rich history that is celebrated through its many historic sites and museums.
