Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1821, Little Rock, Arkansas has a rich history as a key transportation hub during the early days of westward expansion in the United States. Named for a small rock formation along the Arkansas River, the city quickly grew as settlers flocked to the area seeking opportunities in agriculture, trade, and commerce. During the Civil War, Little Rock was occupied by both Union and Confederate forces, experiencing significant destruction and upheaval. After the war, the city rebuilt and became the state capital in 1836. Throughout the 20th century, Little Rock continued to grow and develop, becoming a major center for government, industry, and education in the region. The city played a prominent role in the Civil Rights Movement, most notably during the desegregation crisis at Central High School in 1957. Today, Little Rock is a bustling urban center known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, historic architecture, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
