Lincoln, Nebraska was founded in 1856 as the village of Lancaster, named after the county in which it was located. The town quickly began to grow, attracting settlers with its fertile land and convenient location along the Platte River. In 1867, the village was selected as the state capital of Nebraska, and its name was changed to Lincoln in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. As the state capital, Lincoln continued to grow and prosper. The completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869 further fueled the city’s development, making it a major transportation hub in the region. By the late 19th century, Lincoln had become a bustling city with a diverse economy that included agriculture, manufacturing, and government services. Over the years, Lincoln has continued to thrive, becoming known for its vibrant arts scene, top-notch educational institutions, and strong sense of community. Today, Lincoln is a modern, bustling city that proudly celebrates its rich history and bright future.
