Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Lincoln, Nebraska was founded in 1856 as the village of Lancaster, named after Lancaster, Pennsylvania. By 1867, it had become the state capital of Nebraska and was renamed Lincoln in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. Throughout its history, Lincoln has been a center for agriculture, education, and government. The city’s close proximity to the fertile plains of the Midwest made it a hub for farming and ranching, leading to its nickname as the “Star City of the Plains.” Lincoln is home to the University of Nebraska, which was founded in 1869 and has played a significant role in the city’s growth and development. The university’s presence has attracted a diverse and vibrant community, contributing to Lincoln’s reputation as a dynamic and culturally rich city. Today, Lincoln is known for its thriving arts scene, numerous parks and green spaces, and strong economy. With a population of over 280,000 residents, Lincoln continues to be a thriving and welcoming city in the heart of the Great Plains.
