Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in the early 19th century as a trading post along the Missouri River, Kansas City quickly grew into a bustling frontier town. The city played a significant role in the westward expansion of the United States, serving as a launching point for pioneers heading west on the Oregon Trail. As the city continued to grow, it became a major hub for trade and transportation, with its location at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers making it a key point for steamboats and trains. The construction of the Hannibal Bridge in 1869 further solidified Kansas City’s position as a key transportation center. In the 20th century, Kansas City became known for its jazz music scene, with legendary musicians such as Charlie Parker and Count Basie calling the city home. Today, Kansas City is a vibrant and diverse metropolis with a rich history and a thriving cultural scene.
