Welcome to the Newto News for September of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Indianapolis, Indiana was founded in 1821 as the state capital, selected for its central location within the state. Originally a small trading post on the White River, the city quickly grew into a hub for industry, transportation, and government. The completion of the National Road in the 1830s and the arrival of the first railroad in the 1840s spurred further growth, attracting settlers and businesses to the area. During the Civil War, Indianapolis played a significant role in supporting the Union effort, serving as a center for troop recruitment, training, and supplies. After the war, the city continued to prosper, becoming known for its manufacturing, particularly in the automobile industry. The construction of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1909 solidified the city’s reputation as a hub for racing and automotive innovation. Today, Indianapolis is a thriving metropolis with a diverse economy, vibrant arts and culture scene, and world-class sports facilities. Its rich history and Midwestern charm continue to attract residents and visitors alike.
