Welcome to the Newto News for June of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Huntsville, Alabama, founded in 1805, has a rich history deeply intertwined with the development of the United States. Initially settled by John Hunt, a pioneer and land speculator, the city quickly grew due to its strategic location in the Tennessee Valley and its proximity to the Tennessee River. During the Civil War, Huntsville saw significant military activity, serving as a key Confederate stronghold and a Union stronghold after its occupation by Union troops in 1862. Post-war, Huntsville experienced economic growth as a center for cotton production and railroad transportation. In the 20th century, Huntsville emerged as a hub for technology and aerospace development with the establishment of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the Redstone Arsenal military base. These institutions brought a wave of innovation and prosperity to the city, solidifying its reputation as a leader in science and technology. Today, Huntsville continues to thrive as a prominent city in the South, blending its historic charm with modern advancements in various fields.
